Band 6+: Competition at work school and daily life is a good thing

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

We live in a world that keeps evolving. People are always in a hurry to surpass others in order to achieve their goals. Some regard this as healthy competition, which is universally applicable, while others believe teamwork is the way through. This essay will discuss both opinions and explain why the latter holds water.

The proponents of competition claim that every person needs a driving force to do something in life. If it is there, they are able to succeed and competition is what motivates these men. For example, when an employee sees his boss give a raise to the employee of the month, he is going to perform even better than his colleague to get that bonus next time. In this way contesting gives a sense of purpose to individuals and benefits both the company and its workers.

In contrast, the advocates for collaborative work criticize this practice with the reason that humans are flawed creatures as they tend to astray. For example, if they find someone doing better than themselves, they might try to harm that person so that he can no longer surpass them. This can be done through putting false allegations on that person at work or kidnapping and threatening him in order to mentally destabilize him. Instead, if work environments as well as schools promote individuals to work together, not only can this issue be avoided but better results could also be yielded. This can be explained by the simple concept of division of labour. If every person focuses on using their strengths for a task, they can mask each others’ deficiencies working more efficiently. I am of the same view of this.

In conclusion, the idea of whether competing against each other is better than working alongside peers has divided people. Those in favour see it as a catalyst of success meanwhile those who support working together argue that competition can create rivalries and it is safer to work in harmony. In my opinion it is more beneficial for an array of talents to create something bigger together than struggle individually to reach a destination.
