Band 5+: It is difficult for people who live in cities to get enough physical exercise. What are the causes? What solutions can be taken to solve the problem?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In all nations, people prefer to move to big cities for better opportunities; however, this busy lifestyle brings some drawbacks such as less physical activity during a day. The main reason for this issue might be a lack of time, and this can be solved by government or workplaces to encourage people to stay active.

Less activity during a day can be seen especially those who work in the big companies and have corporate lifestyle. This lifestyle has numerous cons of people’s daily life. Moreover, in the big cities it can take hours to reach one place to another, this is the reason people usually do not have enough energy or wish to go gym or jogging after working hours finish. This led, living typical day such as, waking up, sitting in the traffic to reach workplace, later sitting all day at the office desks without moving and at the end of the day same routine again with traffic and lying down in the bed. According to the psychologists, this harms people’s mental and physical health. For example, Ministry of social protection in Turkiye made a survey during a global pandemic, results show that, 4 out of 5 people – who work from home, they do not exercise and experience body pain daily.

On the other hand, it is quite important that government and workplaces need to collaborate to solve this issue. Similarly, governments can do campaign of community services which are free for people to increase usage of gyms. Besides that, having parks with basic exercise tools might encourage people to go outside after the working hours. Another most realistic solution can be done by human resources team on workplaces, to give their employees opportunities to encourage them join gyms or jogging clubs by counting these hours like work hours. For instance, regarding the Finnish government’s new policy, employees work 4 days a week and they are allowed to go gym during their working hours, which led people to stay more healthier and spend more time with their families rather than sitting behind the desk.

In conclusion, especially big cities come with their own problems such as traffic, less work-life balance to make people unable to do exercises, while governments and workplaces can work together and increase awareness about healthy lifestyles to overcome this problem.
