The debate regarding life-work balance is very controversial, while many support long working hours as a mean to nourish the national economy, others believe that it’s a way to turn humans into machines that possess no social life. to discuss this we need to delve deeper into the susequances of each point of view.
On the one hand, economists insitst that there are many advantages of increasing the average working hours, the most important one is that it contributes to the growth of the overall production, furthermore, it support the employees as they manage to elevate their income by working overtimes, which reflects on the financial and economic bases on both the single citizen and the whole community. Economic researcher and professor, Dr. Simon Camden, from university of boston, states that the national incomes have almost doubled up, in the countries that have already expanded their working hours by only 3 more hours a day. ” Another benefit for the companies is lowering the employment costs, because even if emplyoyees get higher payments, they will be working more hours instead of hiring more workers that require more payments and insurances ” Dr. Camden added
On the other hand, sociologists are warning of the imbalance related to this strategy, as they state that it will cause disasteric subsequances on employees social and familiar life, Dr. Samir Nahal, from Cairo University, insists that more working hours means less time for the family, which will results in a disintegerated families and more neglected children. Moreover, he believes that due to this strategy, the worker will have less leisure time, which will put him under continous stress; thus, without any vending aid, this continuous pressure on the employed citizen will blown up one day with sever unpredictable outcomes.
In a nutshell, I personally agree that the government should establish a new policy that target a balanced working-social life, this will ensure that every employed individual will have the right to choose whether to work extra time for extra payments or to confine to the traditonal working hours and save more precious moments for their families and entertainment, Finally, prioterizing stress free moments is essential for everyone’s mental and psychological health.
