The line graph illustrates the global need for the four types of textile ( polyester, cotton, cellulosic and wool from 1980 to 2015.
Overall, the figure for demand of different textiles, such as polyester, cotton, and cellulosic saw an increase to varying degrees, while the reverse is true for wool. It is clear that polyester and cotton showed more noticeable change, but the demand for the former surpassed the latter in second half of the period.
Focusing on bigger changes first, around 12 million tons of cotton were needed in 1980 and the this was followed by an increase with some flactuation until 2002 ,and saw a rise in 2015 reaching around 33 million tons. Starting at just over 5 million tons the figure for polyester also increased noticeably and surpassed the cotton textile in 1995 and reached almost 68 million tons by the end of the period.
When it comes to smaller changes, arounf 4 million tons of cellulosic textile were needed in 1980 followed by a slight decrease of 2 million tons between 1995 and 2000, after which the figure saw a rise reaching almost 10 million tons in 2015. In contrast, the figure for wool was 2 million tons in 1980, and this was followed by a slight increase reaching its peak for approximately 5 million tons in 1998, after which the figure dropped year on year, finished at 1 million tons.
