Some people opine that using animals for medicine test is the best option, while others argue that using animals for experiments is unethical. I disagree with the statement, and believe that exploiting animals in these ways is inhuman for different reasons.
To begin with, people, who support testing medicine on animals, believe that it ensures the safety of the product. Animal testing helps scientist evaluate the risks and effectivenesses of the drug, before introducing it to people. Otherwise, jeopardizing individual’s life would be even more cruel and lead to mortality rates soar. For example, many medicines such as insulin for diabetes treatment were initially experimented on dogs back in 20th century. Consequently, without these kinds of life-saving observations millions of people would be suffering from a variety of diseases.
Furthermore, I reckon that animal supporters concerned about ethics and cruelty during such researches. They believe that harming and threatening animals’ lives for humanity’s benefit are amoral practices. For instance, in 2020 it was revealed to the public that beauty industry test their cosmetics on rabbits, which caused various burns and injuries on the species. Additionally, animal testing does not guarantee safety of the medicine for individuals as thalidomide incident that fostered thousands of birth defects in 1960, which highlights the limitation of the sole rely on animals resting. Therefore, new alternatives such as AI-models or organ-on-a-chip can be developed so that those brutal practices would be eradicated.
All things considered, while some individual tend to believe that animal testing is necessary, others disagree with the statement. From my perspective, it is better to reduce the numbers of medical experiments on animals as they don’t provide absolute accuracy and doubt society’s ethics.
