Many nations allocate vast amounts of money to celebrate the country’s new year or religious ceremonies. I agree with this because it is an amazing investment for conserving our ancient treasures. However, there will be some disadvantages due to consumerism caused by this behavior, which should be taken care of.
To begin with, each citizen represents the history of the place they come from. Additionally, the hometown itself, can depict its people, by the international image governors have made of the country , worldwide. Hence those with political powers, usually support similar types of expenses, despite the possible budget difficulties to remain a memorable face for future. They are of the opinion, that they can save more valuable ethics this way. Additionally, it is a modern method to keep the recent generations attached to their ancesstors values. For example, New Year events called ‘Norouz’ in Persian language. The importance of this tradition cannot be replaced with any other historical icon since it is for hundreds of years ago. Not only is it one of the most significant happenings from our past, but it is appealing and brings joy.
On the other hand, the excessive financial efforts governments put in to such goals, can lead to some harmful consequences in long term. It all begins with big community gatherings for each date. Consequently, refreshments are necessary and here, is exactly the part that consumerism happens. Individuals, especially Iranians, cannot keep up the balance when it comes to hospitality. Therefore huge amounts of food and drinks are wasted. For example, on one of the occasions, known as ‘Ashoura’, ridiculous financial portions are dedicated annually which gradually results in huge waste that you cannot be ignored. Food leftovers almost everywhere and on each street, are unbearable. Neither are their plastic containers environment friendly.
In conclusion, I believe, the fact that governors have accepted the huge budget required regarding celebrating national events, Is admirable. Unless it is not considered a threat to the planet Earth by the downsides caused by celebrations environmentally, I happily look forward to them.
