Overall, the United States and Britain witnessed upward trends in the number of kilometers travelled while the other countries exhibited opposite patterns. What is notable from the chart is that the United States maintained the leading position throughout the entire period whereas Japan remained the bottom.
At the start of the period, people in the United States travelled around 1700 km, it was followed by Germany and Britain, as its figures being 1600 km and 1300 km respectively. The two last positions belonged to France and Japan, with 1000 km and 700 km in turn.
Thereafter, the distance moved by car in the United State fluctuated with an upward trend, ending the period with 1800 km and still ranking the first. Meanwhile, Germany saw an appreciable decrease before remaining static for nearly 15 years and then dropping dramatically to a low of 1400 km. The figure for Britain surged in the early years but then underwent some fluctuations, ending the period with a high of 1400 km, overtaking Germany as the second position. The trend for France was generally downward, travelling 900 km at the end of the period, whereas a downward trend can be seen in the data of Japan, reaching a low of approximately 350 km in 2002 and concluding the period at 400km.
