This post contains ideas and band-9 sample answers (audio included) for the Cambridge IELTS 14 Academic Speaking Part 1 Question 1 Test 3 question:
“How often do you see your neighbours? [Why/why not?]”
Sample 1: Frequently
I see my neighbours fairly regularly, I would say around four to five times a week. The primary reason for this is our shared interest in community activities. We often participate in local events, such as neighborhood clean-ups and gardening projects, which fosters a sense of camaraderie and belonging among us. Additionally, these activities provide an excellent opportunity for social interaction and getting to know each other better.
Sample 2: Frequently
I run into my neighbours quite often, probably every other day. This is primarily because we reside in a compact apartment complex, which naturally facilitates frequent encounters. Whether it’s in the elevator, at the mailboxes, or in the communal laundry area, there’s always an opportunity for casual conversation and friendly smiles, enhancing the sense of community among us.
Sample 3: Frequently
I have the pleasure of seeing my neighbours on a daily basis. Our close-knit community has cultivated a warm and welcoming atmosphere, which encourages frequent interaction and collaboration. For instance, we often engage in morning or evening walks together, and sometimes organize potluck dinners or barbecues on weekends. This regular contact not only strengthens our friendships but also contributes to a vibrant and supportive neighborhood environment.
Sample 4: Moderately
Honestly, I interact with my neighbours on a moderate basis, let’s say, once or twice a week. The primary reason for this is our conflicting schedules. Most of us have demanding careers or personal commitments, which make it challenging to frequently socialize. Nonetheless, we do make an effort to maintain cordial relationships and catch up with each other whenever the opportunity arises.
Sample 5: Moderately
My interactions with neighbours occur intermittently, typically a few times per week. This is primarily because we all value our privacy and personal space, so while we maintain friendly relationships, we don’t intrude on one another’s lives. However, whenever we do happen to bump into each other, we make sure to exchange warm greetings and engage in some light-hearted conversation.
Sample 6: Rarely
To be honest, I don’t see my neighbours very often, maybe just a few times a month. One reason for this is that I work from home and have most of my necessities delivered, reducing the need for me to venture out. As a result, I don’t have many opportunities to bump into them during my day-to-day routine.
Sample 7: Rarely
My interaction with my neighbours is quite limited, perhaps once every few months. The reason for this is our geographical distance, as we live in a rural area where houses are separated by vast expanses of land. Consequently, our daily routines and activities don’t usually overlap, making spontaneous meetings a rarity. However, we do make an effort to stay connected through social media and occasional phone calls.
Sample 8: Rarely
I must confess, I scarcely come into contact with my neighbours, which can be primarily attributed to my introverted disposition. I find that I recharge best in solitude, and as a result, I usually opt for indoor pursuits or solo hobbies. This preference for low-key leisure activities inadvertently minimizes my interactions with those residing nearby.
Sample 9: It Depends
Well, when it comes to interacting with my neighbours, I’d say it really does depend on a variety of factors. For instance, if I’m having a particularly hectic week at work, I might not bump into them at all. However, during more leisurely periods, I tend to see them more frequently, perhaps while engaging in communal activities like gardening or simply having a friendly chat over the fence. So, it’s rather situational, I would say.
Sample 10: It Depends
Honestly, the frequency at which I see my neighbours hinges on the season and the weather conditions. During the warmer months, people in my neighbourhood are generally more inclined to spend time outdoors, which translates to more opportunities for casual encounters. In contrast, the colder months often result in fewer interactions, as everyone prefers to remain indoors, cozying up in their own homes.
