Answers & Explanations Summary
| # | Answer | Evidence | Explanation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Q1 | 45 | The family room costs $30 per night and the Guesthouse Room costs $45 per night | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript states that staying in the Guesthouse Room costs 45 dollars per night. Answer Explanation: The answer is the number 45, which means the price is 45 dollars. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is 45 because the woman says the Guesthouse Room costs $45 for each night. In the table, the dollar sign ($) is already given before the blank, so you only need to write the number 45. |
| Q2 | 80 | And Waterfront Room costs $80 per night | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript states clearly that the price for the Waterfront Room is eighty dollars each night. Answer Explanation: The answer "80" represents the cost in dollars for staying one night in the Waterfront Room. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is 80 because the woman explains the prices for different rooms. When mentioning the Waterfront Room, she states that it costs $80 per night. |
| Q3 | balcony | What facility is there for Waterfront Room? Balcony, I think? Woman: Yes. It has its own balcony overlooking the foreshore of the lake | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript shows the man asking about the feature of the Waterfront Room, specifically guessing "Balcony", and the woman confirming that the room indeed features its own balcony. Answer Explanation: The answer means an outdoor platform connected to the upper floor of a room where guests can stand or sit outside. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is "balcony" because the man asks what facility comes with the Waterfront Room, guessing if it has a balcony. The woman confirms this by saying "Yes" and explains that the room has its own balcony with a view of the lake. |
| Q4 | 15 | If the kid is aged 12 and below, the cost is $10 per night for Guesthouse Room and $15 for Waterfront Room | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript states that if a child is 12 years old or younger, staying in the Waterfront Room costs an additional 15 dollars per night. Answer Explanation: The answer is 15, which means fifteen dollars. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is 15 because the man asks how much it costs to bring a child. The woman explains that for a child aged 12 and below, the extra bedding costs $10 in the Guesthouse Room and $15 in the Waterfront Room. Therefore, the missing price for kids under 12 in this room is 15. |
| Q5 | tennis court | But the tennis court charges $8 each hour, including the rent of rackets | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript explains that guests must pay eight dollars per hour to use the tennis court, which also includes renting rackets. Answer Explanation: The answer refers to an outdoor or indoor area marked out for playing the game of tennis. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is 'tennis court' because the form asks for the facility or service that costs $8 per hour. The woman clearly states that using the tennis court costs $8 each hour. |
| Q6 | Internet access | We provide free off-street car parking and of course Internet access, but that costs $4 per hour | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript states that car parking is free, but using the internet (Internet access) has a fee of 4 dollars for each hour. Answer Explanation: The answer means connecting to and using the internet. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is 'Internet access' because the table asks which service costs '$4 per hour'. In the conversation, the woman discusses the hotel's facilities and specifically states that 'Internet access' costs '$4 per hour'. |
| Q7 | 648 Dean | Woman: Yes. It's Country Comfort Albury, at 648 Dean Street, New South Wales | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript clearly states that the hotel address is located at 648 Dean Street. Answer Explanation: The answer means the building number and the street name, which is "648 Dean". Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is "648 Dean" because the man asks for the address of the hotel, and the woman replies that it is located at "648 Dean Street, New South Wales". Since the note already contains the word "Street", only "648 Dean" is needed to complete the blank. |

| Q10 | C / D / F | The idea of skiing doesn't appeal to me very much, but it sounds good to have a relaxing walk through the valleys. Maybe after that I'll have a massage and some soaking in the spa It's a good idea to savour the tasty dishes in one of the restaurants |
Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript shows the man choosing a walk in the valleys, a spa soak, and dining at a restaurant as the activities he wants to enjoy during his stay. Answer Explanation: The answer means that the caller wants to walk in the valleys (C), relax and soak in the spa (D), and eat at a local restaurant (F). Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is C, D, and F because the man clearly states his interest in these three activities. He explains that taking a 'relaxing walk through the valleys' sounds good to him, followed by 'some soaking in the spa'. He also agrees that eating delicious food ('savour the tasty dishes in one of the restaurants') is a great idea. In contrast, he turns down watching movies because of his child, dislikes skiing, and mentions that shopping is something his wife likes, not him. |
Transcript
Woman: Good morning. Country Comfort Albury.
Man: Oh, hi, I'd like to ask for some information, please. I want to find a double room to stay for the weekend. What kinds of rooms do you have?
Woman: Well, we provide a variety of accommodation depending upon your likes. The family room costs $30 per night and the Guesthouse Room costs $45 per night. It provides air-conditioning and shower. And Waterfront Room costs $80 per night.
Man: It sounds good. What facility is there for Waterfront Room? Balcony, I think?
Woman: Yes. It has its own balcony overlooking the foreshore of the lake. The view from there is really terrific.
Man: Good. We've got a kid. How do you charge for a child?
Woman: Extra bedding is available if you require that. If the kid is aged 12 and below, the cost is $10 per night for Guesthouse Room and $15 for Waterfront Room.
Man: Do you have a swimming pool, tennis court or something like that?
Woman: Yes, we've got a swimming pool, which is free for all the guests. But the tennis court charges $8 each hour, including the rent of rackets.
Man: How about other facilities?
Woman: We provide free off-street car parking and of course Internet access, but that costs $4 per hour.
Man: Oh, I think that's good.
Woman: Well, we also offer ironing equipment in the room. That's useful, I think.
Man: Great. Could you tell me the address? How do we get there?
Woman: Yes. It's Country Comfort Albury, at 648 Dean Street, New South Wales.
Man: 648 Dean Street, D-E-A-N, is that right?
Woman: Yes.
Man: Well, I wonder what activities are available there in this season. You know, we want to have an indulgent weekend in the boring winter.
Woman: Oh, you'll not get bored here! First, we have installed in-housing movies, which provide excellent plays and dramas.
Man: Well, we don't think we need that, because of the kid, you know. We don't want him to see movies on the weekend.
Woman: Then, Albury is the perfect base for alpine skiing. Besides that, winter's frosty alpine air encourages walks through mist-laden valleys. You can walk alongside rushing streams and waterfalls. After returning to the warm and comfortable lounge, you can sit by an open fire. I think this is the ideal time of year to nourish your body at the Salus Spa.
Man: The idea of skiing doesn't appeal to me very much, but it sounds good to have a relaxing walk through the valleys. Maybe after that I'll have a massage and some soaking in the spa.
Woman: And you know this hotel is perfectly located in a quiet position off the main highway in central Albury. It is within walking distance of licensed clubs, restaurants, shops and the central business district. It is known for its excellent cuisine and warm Australian hospitality.
Man: Good. It's a good idea to savour the tasty dishes in one of the restaurants. My wife may be interested in shopping. She's always keen on that! I think I'll contact you later. Thank you very much.
