Read the text below and answer questions 22-27.

Pool cars – guidance notes

Pool cars are provided to allow staff to undertake company business without having to use their own private vehicle. Pool cars are provided predominantly for business mileage only. A small amount of private mileage may be incurred by an individual, but this must be declared on the log sheet and will be recharged to the individual through the payroll system.

Booking procedure

Before booking a pool car, please ensure that you obtain the permission of your line manager. He/she will be contacted when you make the booking, to check that this has been authorised.

Pool cars can be booked by contacting the Helpdesk, either by email (helpdesk@KFK.com) or telephone (01793-525252). It is advisable to give as much notice as possible when making a booking, as otherwise you may find that no pool car is available when you need it.

Collection process

The keys and logbook must be collected from Reception during normal working hours (8.30am to 5.30pm). If you need to collect the car outside these hours, you must make alternative arrangements with the Helpdesk.

Where are the pool cars kept?

Cars are kept in the lower basement car park. Enter by the stairs closest to the Octagon building. There is a security key pad on the door, where you will need to enter the code shown on the inside front cover of the pool car logbook. Pool cars are always parked in marked bays and nowhere else in the car park.

Before driving off

Please check the vehicle before driving off. Any faults must be reported to the Helpdesk immediately. You should enter into the logbook the mileage that is indicated, and check it is identical to the end mileage recorded by the previous driver. If this is not the case, you should report this upon returning the vehicle.

Exiting the car park

Inside the front cover of the logbook is an access card. This will need to be swiped through the card reader to raise the exit shutter. The shutter closes automatically when the car has driven through.

Answers & Explanations Summary

# Answer Evidence Explanation
Q15 Expectations J&G commits to working closely with you to confirm your assignment expectations, while helping you to ensure that these are achievable Excerpt/Passage Explanation:
The passage explains that the company promises to work with the job candidate to check and agree on what the candidate wants and expects from their job assignments.
Answer Explanation:
The answer "Expectations" means the things that a person hopes, wants, or believes will happen in a job.
Reason For Correctness:
The correct answer is "Expectations" because the table asks what the agency will meet regarding a person's work assignments under the heading "Tailored assignments". The text states under section 1 that J&G will work closely with you to "confirm your assignment expectations". Therefore, the word that fills the blank is "expectations".
Q16 Feedback We will do our best to find you suitable temporary roles, and give you updates on positions available, feedback during and following an assignment and useful advice for your future development Excerpt/Passage Explanation:
The passage explains that the agency promises to provide candidates with three main things: news about available jobs (updates), reviews on how they performed (feedback), and helpful suggestions (advice).
Answer Explanation:
The answer "Feedback" means comments, reviews, or information given to a worker about how well they are doing their work.
Reason For Correctness:
The correct answer is confirmed by section 2 of the text, titled "Keeping you informed". The text states that the agency will "give you updates on positions available, feedback during and following an assignment and useful advice for your future development." In the table, the item asks what the agency will give alongside "updates" and "advice", which matches the word "feedback".
Q17 Interviews / Interview J&G commits to ensuring that, prior to attending interviews with potential employers, you are briefed and given advice on interview techniques Excerpt/Passage Explanation:
The passage explains that before job seekers go to job interviews with possible employers, the agency will guide them and give them helpful advice.
Answer Explanation:
The answer "interview(s)" refers to a formal meeting where an employer asks a job applicant questions to see if they are suitable for a job.
Reason For Correctness:
The correct answer is "interview(s)" because under the section about developing skills and experience, the agency promises to prepare candidates before they meet possible employers. The passage mentions that "prior to attending interviews", candidates are given information and advice. In the task, "help you prepare for" corresponds directly to being "briefed and given advice on interview techniques" before attending "interviews".
Q18 Danger If you find you are facing significant danger in an assignment, we will give you our full support and make it a priority to search for another assignment for you Excerpt/Passage Explanation:
The passage states that if a worker encounters major or serious danger on a job, the agency will fully support and help them.
Answer Explanation:
The answer means a dangerous or unsafe situation that could cause harm.
Reason For Correctness:
The correct answer is correct because the text discusses how the agency handles accident prevention and safety at work. In section 4, it states: "If you find you are facing significant danger in an assignment, we will give you our full support...". Here, the prompt's phrase "back you up" matches "give you our full support", and "serious" corresponds to the synonym "significant". Therefore, the word that fills in "serious " is "danger".
Q19 Professional we base our selection decisions on professional criteria only Excerpt/Passage Explanation:
The passage explains that when choosing candidates for jobs, the agency focuses only on work-related qualities and qualifications, rather than anything unfair or unrelated to the job.
Answer Explanation:
The answer means relating to a person's work, job qualifications, or business standards.
Reason For Correctness:
The correct answer is confirmed by section 5, which discusses "Recruiting without discrimination". The table asks what kind of matters are considered when recruiting ("to consider only matters when recruiting"). The passage explicitly states that the agency bases its selection decisions "on professional criteria only". Therefore, the missing word that fits the blank is "professional".
Q20 Database J&G commits to offering you access to advantages such as database training Excerpt/Passage Explanation:
The passage means that the agency promises to give workers special benefits, including learning how to use a database.
Answer Explanation:
The answer "Database" refers to a computer system used for storing and organizing information, which the agency can train workers to use.
Reason For Correctness:
The correct answer is confirmed under section 6 of the text, titled "Helping you benefit from the advantages J&G offers". The text states that the agency provides candidates with "advantages such as database training". In the table, this corresponds directly to the prompt "to offer you training, e.g. in using a [database]". Therefore, "database" is the exact single word that completes the sentence.
Q21 Discounts loyalty programmes providing discounts on purchases from a number of major retailers Excerpt/Passage Explanation:
The passage explains that special programs will give workers reduced prices when they buy items from several big shops.
Answer Explanation:
The answer "discounts" means lower prices or money off when you buy things.
Reason For Correctness:
The correct answer is "discounts" because the text describes the advantages of working with J&G. It mentions loyalty programs that give "discounts on purchases from a number of major retailers." In the summary table, "buying from certain stores" matches "purchases from a number of major retailers," and "to offer you" matches "providing."
Q22 Line manager Before booking a pool car, please ensure that you obtain the permission of your line manager. He/she will be contacted when you make the booking, to check that this has been authorised Excerpt/Passage Explanation:
The passage clearly states that before you book a pool car, you must get permission from your line manager to verify that the request is officially approved.
Answer Explanation:
The answer refers to your direct boss or supervisor at work.
Reason For Correctness:
The correct answer is "Line manager" because the text explains that before reserving a car, you must get approval from this person. In the text, the phrase "obtain the permission of your line manager" matches "ask your line manager for authorisation", and the text later confirms this by noting that your line manager will be contacted to check that the booking has been "authorised".
Q23 Helpdesk Pool cars can be booked by contacting the Helpdesk, either by email (helpdesk@KFK.com) or telephone (01793-525252) Excerpt/Passage Explanation:
The passage explains that to reserve a company car, you need to reach out to the Helpdesk by sending an email or making a phone call.
Answer Explanation:
The answer refers to the support office or team named "Helpdesk" that staff must reach out to by email or phone to reserve a car.
Reason For Correctness:
The correct answer is "Helpdesk" because the flow-chart step asks who to "email or call" in order to make a booking. In the section under "Booking procedure", the text states that cars can be reserved ("booked") by contacting the "Helpdesk" by email or telephone.
Q24 security code / code There is a security key pad on the door, where you will need to enter the code shown on the inside front cover of the pool car logbook Excerpt/Passage Explanation:
The passage explains that there is a keypad on the door, and you have to type in the code written inside the front cover of the car's logbook to get in.
Answer Explanation:
The answer means a secret number or password, written in the logbook, that unlocks the door to the car park.
Reason For Correctness:
The correct answer is "(security) code" because the flow-chart asks what must be used to enter the lower basement car park as shown in the logbook. The text explains that to open the door with the security keypad, a person must enter the "code shown on the inside front cover of the pool car logbook". Therefore, "code" (or "security code") completes the sentence correctly.
Q25 Marked bays Pool cars are always parked in marked bays and nowhere else in the car park Excerpt/Passage Explanation:
The passage means that company cars can only be found in special, clearly marked parking spots in the car park.
Answer Explanation:
The answer means designated or painted parking spaces.
Reason For Correctness:
The correct answer is "Marked bays" because the text explains where the cars are parked in the basement car park. It states that the vehicles are "always parked in marked bays and nowhere else". Therefore, to collect the car, you must go to one of the marked bays. Keywords in the text like "parked in marked bays" correspond to "Collect the car from one of the... in the car park" in the flow-chart.
Q26 Faults Any faults must be reported to the Helpdesk immediately Excerpt/Passage Explanation:
The passage explains that if a driver notices any problem with the car, they must tell the Helpdesk right away.
Answer Explanation:
The answer "Faults" means problems, defects, or things that are broken or not working properly on the car.
Reason For Correctness:
The correct answer is "Faults" because the flow-chart asks what must be reported to the Helpdesk right away after checking the vehicle. In the text, under the section "Before driving off", it states that "Any faults must be reported to the Helpdesk immediately." In this context, "reported" matches "inform", and "immediately" matches "at once".
Q27 Mileage indicated / Mileage You should enter into the logbook the mileage that is indicated, and check it is identical to the end mileage recorded by the previous driver Excerpt/Passage Explanation:
The passage explains that before you drive, you must look at the car's display to see how many miles it shows and write that number down in the logbook.
Answer Explanation:
The answer means the number of miles shown on the vehicle's dashboard at that moment.
Reason For Correctness:
The correct answer is confirmed by the section titled 'Before driving off'. The flow-chart asks what must be written into the logbook. The text says, 'You should enter into the logbook the mileage that is indicated'. Here, the word 'enter' means 'write', and 'the mileage that is indicated' refers to the 'current mileage'. Therefore, 'mileage' (or 'mileage indicated') directly completes the step.
