A person I thought of when considering someone who solved a problem in a smart way is a colleague of mine. She had the problem of being responsible for responding to emails sent by our team. She was tasked with coordinating the volume of emails that our other colleagues sent to her. She noticed that every co-worker approached the task a little differently because everyone understood the task differently. So, she thought of a way to handle this without making it too complex. She took the initiative to create a manual for everyone with step-by-step instructions on how to deal with the situation and how to send the tasks in a way that was most useful for her. Since then, it has worked much better because everyone knew what she needed and what information she didn't require. It was a very smart move because, until then, everyone understood their assignment differently. She used the motivation from her co-workers and effectively resolved her problem by providing clarity and structure.
