I’m going to talk about a literary text that I once read in September 12, 2024. The title of the book was The Blossoms of the Savanna. The Blossoms of the Savanna is a literary text that talks about feminism whereby it highlights two main characters that is Saeo and Ressian. The girls are living with their father, that is Ole Ka’elo and their mother, Mama Milanoi. So reading this text, I realized that the character of the father is not how I perceived it, since I knew that every father of a child loves a girl, or a girl is always a favorite daughter. And since the birth of Resyan, being a second born, The father wanted to expect a bouncing baby boy but here comes the Sian who is a girl. The father actually mistreats this girl and goes ahead and heads her from her bath, even organizes what we call forced marriages in exchange of money. And therefore, it doesn’t feel any pinch. And this actually changed my perspective since I knew that fathers are more likely to defend their daughters in any instance, but this one actually was the opposite of what I expected, since it drew my thinking to think in another perception. This father actually decides to marry off the daughter with the exchange of money, and moreover, after achieving all this, it goes ahead and wanting the daughters to be circumcised by force without their willingness. So this actually changed my perceptions about men and this is why I’ve seen as if men can just be heartless. They don’t have that feeling of human being since they don’t care how their daughters are going to suffer as long as they have gotten what they wanted because Olekai wanted to get money from a very resourceful person then he exchanges the money with the daughter, Resyan.
