Okay, so today I’m going to talk about challenging experience that turned out to be a very huge success in my life. Well, to start with, this took place about two months ago during the Q-Sight Hackathon at the University of Toronto. To give you a bit of background, Q-Sight stands for Quantum Information Science and Technology. Basically, it’s an event that brings together students from STEM fields like science, technology, engineering and mathematics to dive into areas like quantum computing and quantum algorithm. Speaking of when I encountered this challenge, it was in late September if I remember it correctly, and the Hackathon spent an entire week. That’s also when my wife invited me to join her team at the Hackathon. Honestly, I really wanted to make an impression. And she’s an engineering student on her gap year. And actually, she’s waiting for my admission to the University of Toronto so we can move to Canada together. So I thought I’d give her engineering background and my focus on physics. We feel we’ve made a great team, especially since quantum computing combined both fields. As for what we achieved in the challenges, from start we tackle two types of challenges. Three coding tasks and one open challenge. In terms of the coding tasks, we needed to build a quantum circuit to solve specific problems like quantum phase kickback and quantum comparisons, which involved quite a bit of manipulating quantum states. Meanwhile, the open challenge requires to implement something called quantum approximate optimization algorithm to solve a complex problem known as weighted mass-cake cut. To be honest, it was difficult because we had to work with tools like Q-Skid and Penelan on Amazon Bracket for real-time organization. It felt like a chance for both of us to grow together, learn new skills and strengthen our relationship.
