One of the most memorable meal which someone made for me was Bapapita and it was my friend Sara who prepared it for me. Sara and I usually share that deep love for traditional Bangladeshi food and Sara prepared it for me in a cozy evening when I visited her home. Sara is an absolutely amazing cook. She always takes a lot of pride when making pitha. She prepared the food by mixing the rice flour with some water to make a perfect mixture and then she prepared the filling with fresh coconut and jaggery which she melted over a low flame. Once everything was set up then she layered the rice flour and put the filling inside it then steamed all together slowly. It took almost one hour to complete the whole process and while waiting the whole room was filled with the sweet aroma of jaggery and it was absolutely mouthwatering. The reason behind Sara prepared it for me was absolutely thoughtful. She knew that I had been feeling a little bit nostalgic and homesick for the winter tradition I used to share with my family so she tried to cheer me up and bring back those memories so it felt like a special gesture that carries a sense of tradition and love also. And finally when I tasted the pitha I was overjoyed. The softness of rice flour went well with the sweetness of coconut filling but it was Sara’s effort which made the pitha more special. Overall this meal wasn’t just a food for me it was a symbol of the warmth of our friendship. To this day whenever I was thinking of bhabha pitha I remembered that evening and I will cherish this food always this is just not for a taste but the effort, the care, the love went into it. That’s all. Thank you.
