The dessert that I particularly enjoyed was called gajar ka halwa, also known as carrot pudding in English. It's basically a carrot-based sweet dessert pudding made by simmering grated carrots in a pot with milk, water, sugar, and cardamom. The last time I had this meal was almost four months ago during the winter. I decided to cook it for the very first time in my life. So I invited my friends over for dinner and thought it would be a great idea to serve it as dessert, since it requires careful preparation. I called my mother for guidance and also watched videos online. I would say that it is the most famous dessert in Indian cuisine because it is eaten during all the festivals in the Indian subcontinent, mainly on the occasion of festivals like Diwali, Raksha Bandhan, and Eid. It is served warm during the winter. This specific dish holds a very special place in my heart because it is associated with positive memories. My mother used to cook it in winter as it's rich in calories and provides necessary energy and warmth. But most importantly, it is linked to the memories of my school days. I used to come home from school after a long, cold, and exhausting day and smell the aroma of this dish as soon as I entered the house. Therefore, whenever I eat it, it brings me back to those family dinners, creating a deep sense of nostalgia.
