I would like to talk about time when I misunderstood one of my close friends. It happened a few months ago. When we were planning to meet at a cafe, my friend sent me a message saying that we should be in afternoon. I understood this to mean around 2pm so I arrived at the cafe at that time. However, my friend didn’t show up. I waited for about an hour and started to think that maybe she had forgotten about our plans. Later she called me and asked where I was. I was surprised because she thought we were meeting at 4 p.m. I checked our previous message and released that I had simply assumed the time instead of asking her to clarify it. That was when I understood that the misunderstanding was my fault. Although it was a small problem I learned an important lesson from it. I realized that we shouldn’t make a assumption when something is unclear. It’s much better to ask questions and make sure both people understand the same thing. Since then I have tried to communicate more clearly, no, clearly, especially when making plans with other people.
