I think there are a lot of times when we need to encourage or push others to step outside their comfort zones. Here, I want to talk about a boy who was studying in a school where I worked last year. I was the class teacher of this boy, and it was my responsibility to inform the students about the programs that would take place during the academic year. His name was Shehros, and he was in the sixth standard. There was a competition named Pratibha Karanjee, which is held by the Rotary Club every year. I observed this boy every time; he was making sounds during the intervals, lunch breaks, and even in the classrooms. Sometimes he would mimic different sounds like dogs and crows, and he would also imitate the sounds of the vegetable vendors who come every week in my hometown. So, I approached the boy and encouraged him to participate in the program. At first, he started shivering and said, 'No, no, no, ma'am, I can't participate; I'm very afraid.' He had stage fright and would not even participate in the assembly prayers. Many times he would come to me and say, 'Ma'am, I can't do it,' and ask me to tell others to do it instead. Then his friends also insisted, and I explained that at the first stage, at the taluk level, there would be other participants to compete with him. I told him to listen to their sounds first and then learn different sounds. After that, he was ready to participate. I thought that a boy who was always feeling shy and afraid should show the talent he had. So, I encouraged him, and in the end, he secured first place in the mimicry competition.
