One time when a friend needed my advice was about a month ago. This person was my closest friend from university. We still keep in touch and communicate regularly and also often share advice whenever we face important decisions. At that time he had received two job offers, one provided a higher salary while the other provided more opportunities for career development and training. He couldn't decide because both of these job offers had their own advantages. Since I have been working for 5 years, I had many different perspectives from him and I suggested he choose the second option. I told him not to focus on higher salary, but to focus on his personal and professional development. I explained that gaining valuable lessons is more important and better than achieving a higher salary. After thinking for a few days, he finally decided to choose the second option that provided career opportunities and I was really happy to hear that because career development and training opportunities can lead him to have a bigger job with higher salary in the long run. Overall I was glad to give him advice because I wanted to share a different perspective rather than focus on salary.
