I recall one time that I experienced a cultural difference is when I visited Japan with my friends. During that visit to Japan, we were queuing outside a restaurant. Then we met two visitors to Japan as well. They are from the Levenants. One is an Asian looking woman and the other is a white man both in their mid twenties. Because the waiting for the restaurant is very long, that’s why we decided to sit together in one table so that we could both get to eat the food. Then we started chatting while we were eating and I remember one of my friends compliment the woman saying that, oh, you sleep really good Dutch, but the woman actually went to the 11th when she was in a very young age. And the man next to her seemed a bit annoyed by our reaction and said that she spoke Dutch better than him as in, and I think this is the slight cultural difference where in Hong Kong as in, majority of people are Asian and do not think about the microaggression about the racial differences. So when my friend complimented the Asian-Locan women for speaking good at their mother’s home, I think this is a slightly overworked situation.
