I think it’s rather hard to pick only one tradition to describe, but I would like to tell about pagan celebration, which is called Masenetsa. This is the week in the beginning of March where people want to say goodbye to winter and to welcome spring. This celebration is very old, I think it has pagan roots, even though later it adopted some religious Christian traditions. People do a lot of interesting and rather unique things during the celebration, including baking pancakes, large pancakes, and enjoying them every meal with jam, honey, butter and different feelings and the interesting thing about that is that the pancake describes the sun it looks like the sun so it’s the symbol of solar energy. People also go to different festivals and on the last day of this celebration a very big figure is being burned. It represents winter and people set it on fire to destroy winter and to say hello to spring. I enjoy participating in it because this tradition is a lot of fun and I also like cooking pancakes and usually I eat dozens, hundreds of them during this time.
