In India, a vast array of plants are cultivated, both native to the country and introduced from abroad, each possessing unique values. Some hold medicinal properties, while others serve various purposes. Today, I'd like to discuss one such plant, Tulsi, also known as holy basil. It's a common sight in Indian households and temples, a small shrub with vibrant green or purple leaves. Tulsi holds a special place in Hindu culture, considered an auspicious plant. As Hinduism is widely practiced in India, this plant is revered during auspicious occasions and even worshipped daily by some. I learned about its significance from my mother. Beyond its cultural importance, Tulsi possesses medicinal properties, aiding in the treatment of various health issues. It's known to alleviate respiratory problems and reduce stress. In India, a drink called 'kadha' is prepared using Tulsi, which is particularly helpful during colds and coughs. It's also incorporated into healthy beverages like green tea, appealing to the younger generation's interest in wellness.
