Um, one of the most significant historical event in Iranian history was the Arab invasion of the seventh century. Did not only change the political structure but also the goal of this invasion was to deeply influence our cultural identity. The invasion began around um, 633 AD at a time, uh, when the Sasanian empire was already weakened due to loined wars and some serious internal problems. Arab forces gradually advanced into Iranian territories and after major battles such as Qadisiya, um, South Indian government unfortunately collapsed. Uh, however, what I find particularly interesting in the way Iranians respond to this invasion. While they were defeated militarily, they did not surrender culturally. Instead of relying on, um, violence, they preserved their identity through languages, through literature and collective memory. Persian survived at a time when Arabic became the dominant language of religion and administrations. And over time it reemerged a stronger than before. And this process, um, I believed reached its peak. Rich Ferguse, who about three centuries later wrote Shahnameh and he helped reconnect Iranians with their past and Aswathan assured sense of identity. And in my opinion, uh, I agree with Ferdows idea that Iranians can be compared to cypress tree. A cypress, um, may appear here as a single tree above ground, but its roots are connected beneath the surface and this connection is essential for their survival. In a similar way, Iranian identity has been maintained through shared language, culture and uh, their oral and written traditions rather than relying their military power. And I think.
