I believe that people do both shopping and simply hanging out. In some instances, individuals visit shopping malls specifically to update their wardrobe or purchase products they need. It can be a lot of fun to walk around, explore, and catch up with friends. So overall, it really depends on the individuals and their reasons for going to the mall.
