Personally speaking, both of them are good, but I prefer studying in a group to the former. The reason for that is it's a good way to learn new vocabulary and structures. Imagine if you study in a group, you will learn many jokes or very common mistakes that are scattered in our society. So I think there are many advantages to studying in a group over studying individually.
