Well, I believe that cultural and societal norms play a significant role in shaping how punishment is viewed and applied. In some cultures, strict punishment, excessive punishment, like corporal punishment or long prison sentences, are seen as necessary to maintain order. They believe that this aligns with their values and beliefs. However, in others, there is a bigger focus on rehabilitation and second chances. They see fear and justice as equal. For example, some countries emphasize reintegration for criminals, while others tend to have harsher sentencing laws. Social values, religion, and history also influence what is considered fair punishment. In the end, what one society sees as reasonable discipline, another might view as too extreme.
