Our cultural values and beliefs have an influence on how we perceive success and how we see fulfillment in our lives. For us Filipinos, the definition of success for us is attaining a stable job and paying back our parents for all the efforts that they have given us. When we are able to do that, we are already successful and we feel happy or content already in our lives. However, this is very different with the westernized cultures or beliefs. For them, success is measured by how they live life independently. So for example, they move out of their parents’ house, they travel abroad, they earn money for their own sake, they support themselves. That’s the definition of success for them. And nothing is right or wrong because it’s definitely subjective. But from these differences, we could say that even our cultures and values have an effect on how we see success and fulfillment in our lives.
