I think cultural traditions shape our understanding of identity through the teaching itself. For example, when we are introduced to a cultural tradition, they talk about the belief system, and with this teaching, we eventually understand the true identity of the cultural traditions. Not to mention the way they teach us about their identity or their cultural belief system; they accept us and explain it to us as if we are one of them, as if we belong to them. With this act of teaching and care combined, we can eventually feel our belonging. With that teaching, we can also understand our identity and our belonging—where we want to belong and whether we feel we belong here. Do we feel accepted here? This is why I firmly believe that cultural traditions can shape our understanding of identity and belonging in every aspect and in every way they teach us.
