This is a question that many people argue about when you look at the numbers. It really seems crazy. A top footballer can earn more in one week than a northeer earns in 10 years. From one point of view you can understand how it happens. Professional sports like football, basketball are a huge business today. Millions of fans buy tickets to watch games, they buy shows with players’ names and they pay for TV channels to watch matches at home. The company also pays millions of dollars to athletes to advertise their products. So, the clubs and brands make enormous amounts of money and they share this money with players who are the main stars of the show. If the players didn’t earn big salaries, the clubs would just keep all the profits themselves. But from another point of view, it’s very hard to say it is fair. Teachers are responsible for educating future generations. Doctors and firefighters save lives every single day. These professions are essential for society but they are played so much less than people who just play games. So while I understand the business side of sports, I personally believe that society should value and pay essential. Work is much better than it does now.
