I don't know exactly, but I think one of the roles is most important for society. First of all, that might be ethical rules. Advertising is a great way to reach information to every individual. That is why advertising should play ethically related roles, and it can reduce some cases of problems. Also, a negative result can be mitigated, which can help address our issues.
