I would say some potential long-term consequences would be the spread of misinformation online. Nowadays, you can fake pretty much anything with the use of artificial intelligence, and it's getting more and more difficult to differentiate between what is real and what is fake information. Relying on social media so much could lead to not being informed correctly about certain situations and also maybe getting only one side of a certain situation, not getting a broad view on the information that you're trying to find out more about. A lot of people like to twist certain situations to get more clicks and more views, trying to come up with a catchier headline. It's really hard to browse the internet nowadays and be 100% sure that the information you're getting isn't somehow twisted and warped, isn't completely fake, and it could lead to a lot of people getting scammed, misinformed, and everything in that area.
