For several reasons, I guess some are driven by a love of the culture, and learning a language becomes a dream for them to experience the culture firsthand. Then there are those who might learn for practical reasons, which relate to career or academic pursuits. For example, in my country, for students, the position I have as a student is one of the requirements for university.
