The most common reason, for me at least, is probably panic. When I panic, it feels like I can't think clearly on my own. Another reason is that you might think others can see your situation from a different perspective and offer helpful advice. There's also a less positive reason, which is trying to shift the responsibility of the decision onto someone else. This happens too. It might seem like if you ask for advice and then don't follow it, you can blame someone else. This isn't appropriate behavior. We should always take responsibility for our actions. While you can listen to someone's advice, ultimately you need to act on your own judgment.
