There are several reasons why so many people are still interested in such places. I believe that the first one could be the primary one. When they keep separate such trips for students to study about those places in the real world, they firmly believe that a firsthand connection with the historical relics or artifacts could enrich their experiences and knowledge base. Moreover, some people who have heard or read about it before in movies are inspired to do such things and enter those places. It could be an invitation to the historical places, and they feel like they are lost in another world.
