The bar chart illustrates the participation patterns of children aged 5 to 14 in Australia in 5 selected free times activities.
Overall, boys tend to have higher participation rates in three out of five activities. While the interests of both genders closely resemble each others’, with considerably more emphasis on watching TV or videos, children in Australia are prone to ignore skateboarding/rolle-blading.
Focusing on more popular spare time activities, watching TV stands out as being the only activity where all children are present. This is followed at a distance by gaming and bike riding where boys take a lead, at a ratio of approximately 8 to 6 and 9 to 6 respectively.
Art and craft, on the other hand, was the only class where girls show a relatively higher percentage, at 60%, as opposed to 40% shown among boys. The least favourite activity on the chart seems to be skateboarding. 3 out of 10 girls take part in the activity, while the figure is a bit higher among boys, at 4.
