The bar graph illustrates the gross domestic product produced by the information technology and service industry of the United Kingdom between 1992 and 2000, with the units measured in percentages.
Overall, it can be observed that both categories increased as a percentage of GDP, but the information technology sector consistently maintained a higher rate throughout this time period.
At the beginning of the period in 1992, the service industry accounted for around 4 percent of GDP, while the information technology sector exceeded this figure, standing at just over 6 percent. Over the next four years, the levels of both components became more similar, fluctuating between 6 and just over 8 percent. However, the service industry still remained higher overall, experiencing a slight drop from 1994 to 1996.
In the subsequent four years, the patterns of the two components were noticeably different. The percentage of GDP from information technology increased sharply, reaching 12 percent in 1998 and then 15 percent in 2000. In contrast, the service industry remained nearly the same, increasing only to 8 percent. Despite this, the percentage of GDP from information technology was almost twice that of the service industry.
