The charts provide information about the films screened in the UK and Australia in 2001, and their cinema admissions between 1976 and 2006.
Overall, it is evident that excluding films from other regions, the remaining films were displayed more in the UK than in Australia. The figures for cinema admissions in both countries grew over the period, with the UK having higher number every year.
In 2001, about 78% of films aired in Britain were from the United States, which was 5% more than that of Australia. Likewise, the shares of British and Australian movies in the UK cinema market were also fourfold and twofold larger, respectively. However, Australia screened more than three times as many other films as the United Kingdom.
Regarding cinema admissions, the UK had approximately 124 million entries in 1978, but this plummeted to a low of 50 million by 1984. By contrast, Australia’s admissions remained relatively stable, between 40 and 30 million, during the same period. After 1984, these figures rose consistently, with the UK reaching double that of Australia by 2006.
