The given line graph illustrates the changes in three types of crime in Manchester city centre over a period of nine years from 2003 to 2012. The figures are measured in terms of the number of crimes recorded.
Overall, it is clear that the crime which was the highest at the beginning declined dramatically, while another showed a gradual increase and the remaining one stayed relatively stable throughout the period. Moreover, although burglary was the most common crime at the start, it was overtaken by car theft by the end of the period.
With regard to the most prevalent crime at the start, burglary stood at just under 3,500 cases in 2003. In the following year, the figure rose slightly to approximately 3,700. It then experienced a sharp decline, reaching a low point of about 1,000 in 2008. From this point onwards, it increased slightly to around 1,500 and then remained relatively stable until the final year.
Turning to the other two types of crime, car theft and robbery stood at approximately 2,400 and 500 cases respectively in 2003. Car theft remained relatively steady until 2008, after which it increased gradually and reached about 2,700 in 2012. Similarly, robbery showed minor fluctuations throughout the period and finished at just above 500 in the final year.
