The table gives information on the oil production of four African countries between 2000 and 2004.
Overall, it is noticeable that Nigeria had by far the highest figures throughout the period, while Chad and Cote produced considerably less oil. Nigeria, Chad and Cote experienced increases, whereas Congo witnessed a decline
Moving to a more detailed analysis, Nigeria produced 2 million barrels per day, which was over seven times as high as Congo’s figure of 270,000 barrels. After fluctuating between 1.9 and 2.2 million, Nigeria’s production reached a peak of 2.3 million in 2004. In contrast, Congo’s figure fell steadily to 200,000, meaning that Nigeria produced over eleven times more oil than Congo in 2004.
As regards the countries with lower production, Cote started at only 8,000 barrels, before falling slightly to 7,000 in 2001. It then rose dramatically to 55,000 in 2004. Chad produced no oil during the first three years, but reached 50,000 barrels in 2004, which was slightly lower than the figure for Cote.
