Band 7+: Many women want or need to continue working even after they have children. The charts below show the working patterns of mothers with young children to care for. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The pie charts give information about the number of mothers who are wanting or needing to go to work after they have children in Great Britain.

It is noticeable that mothers with young children from 0-2 years almost are not working . In contrast, when children are 10 years old, more than half of mothers go to work.

As can be seen from the charts, carers for infants 0-2 years old and toddlers 3-4 years old take the highest rate of unemployment, with 70% and 50% respectively. In terms of, the percentage of mothers who are working full time nearly doubles between two patterns, taking 35% later, while the figure for working full time remains stable at 11%.

For children from 5-9 years old and 10 years old, their mothers almost choose to work part time at 48% and 45%. In addition, the rate of parents working full time increased significantly to 29% at 10 years old than children at 5-9 years old at 14%. While, the proportion for not working is 14% and 29% respectively.
