This table illustrated six metro systems in different cities with detailed information. Overall, most cities shared a similar number of lines and total length, while the New York City Subway showed a dramatic difference compared to the others. In terms of the cost of single ticket, the price and annual journeys vary with an enormous range.
First of all, the lines and the total length of the underground systems exhibited marked differences. the New York City Subway and Beijing Subway owned 24 lines and 19 lines respectively. However, the London Tube and Mexico City Metro showed a significant contrast as they have only 11 lines and 12 lines respectively. The more the lines are owned by the systems, the longer the total length is. Despite the huge comparison between these systems, Tokyo Subway and Paris Metro presented a relatively balanced number of lines.
Secondly, the annual journeys and the cost of single ticket showed a big contrast as well. While the London Tube cost $7.30 for a single ticket, the Beijing Subway only required $0.45 for a ride. Under the big difference on the price, the annual journeys had showed a total reverse compared to the cost. The New York City Subway travelled 1.65 billion annually and the Beijing Subway had travelled 3.6 billion through out the year. Other metro systems seem to have similar prices and annual journeys.
To conclude, New York City Subway had the most lines while the London Tube got the least. It is also the most expensive ride compared to other metro systems like the Beijing Subway. Paris Metro and Tokyo Subway showed a subtle performance in all aspects.
