The diagram shows the average precentage of people reached by radio and television over the different day and night times, measured throughout a period of three months from October to December 1992.
The graph illustrates that listening to the radio in the morning was very common and increased steadily in the early hours, whereas over the day there was a gradually fall over the subsequent hours and television already took over in the early afternoon.
While the television was relavtively seldom used in the morning hours, the audiences increased from noon to the evening dramatically. Both devices were hardly ever used at night.
In the time from 6.00 to approximately 9.00 in the morning, the number of radio listeners climbed to roughly 28%. After its peak at that point, the numbers gradually fell till the early afternoon, where they fluctated back from around 11% to nearly 15 % before they continued their downwards trend until 10.00 in the evening. After a last moderate grow, numbers fell steadily to their low at 2.00 in the morning.
The figures for the television show an almost completely different trend. Whereas fluctuating in the morning around 8% to 5% they sharply increased after noon and continued to rise until 8.00 in the evening, despite a small decrease around 3.00 PM. Following its peak at 8.00 PM the audiences for television drop steadily to the same level as the radio.
