The given bar chart illustrates the percentage of average weekly revenue spent for different categories by families between 1968 and 2018.
Overall, the increases and decreases experienced throughout the period except for household goods, remained constantly unchanged. Although food had the highest proportion of weekly spending in 1968, when it comes to 2018, leisure was the leader in all categories.
At first glance, the highest decline was in the food category, which dropped from 35% to nearly 16%. Both personal goods and clothing and footwear groups showed a minor fall, reaching the lowest proportions at just under 5%.
On the other hand, there was the greatest growth in the leisure group, increasing to roughly 22%. Like the former group, the housing showed a similar pattern but at a slower rate rising to just under 20%. The increases were observed in others. However, household goods remained stable at approximately 8%.
