The bar charts illustrate the amount of film released per genre and the total revenues from the sale of cinema tickets, both expressed in percentage, in 1996 and 2006.
Overall, from 1996 to 2006, the production of movies increased for every genre, except for romance. In the same way, the sales of tickets rose, without, however, considering the one for romance which declined.
In particular, while the realese of drama grew by 10%, the one of comedy by 5% and the one of fantasy a little bit less than 5%, the number of romance on the market did not changed and remained constant at approximately 7%.
Even though drama movies are the most released ones, the audience preferred comedy films, whose ticket sales surged from 20% to 23%. Drama are the second most watched films, with a marginal increase in their ticket sale, followed by fantasy ones, which on the contary saw a considerable increase in revenues. On the other hand, popularity of romances declined and its sales plummed drammatically, dimishing by an half.
