The table illutrates the sources: national government, local taxes and other which funded the police department in 2017 and2018, whereas the pie chart depicts what proportion of the total funds were distributed for staff salaries, technology, buildings and transport for the same years.
Overall, the budget increased from 2017 to 2018 with national government being the most important source of funding followed by the local taxes. Majority of funds were utilized to pay the staff and officers although the percentage reduced from 2017 to 2018. In contrast the amount spend for technology increased over the year.
In the year 2017, 304.7m was the total budget, in which national government contributed 175.5m, local taxes 91.2m, and other sources like grants gave 38m. However, in 2018 the final budget was 318.6m as all the three categories increased the amount which they provided to police.While national government funded 177.8m (around 2m more than the previous year), local taxes showed a dramatic rise from 91.2 to 102.3m. There was a marginal difference in the amount obtained from grants.
Providing the pay cheques to the staff and officers consumed 75% of the funds in 2017 which dropped to 69% in 2018. On contrary, the funding for the technology rose from 85 to 14% in 2018. The portion provided for building and transport reained constant at 17%.
