The bar graph illustrates the number of international students from the USA, Russia, Japan, and China studying at a university in a European country from 2004 to 2008.
Overall, the number of applicants from China decreased, while the figures for the remaining countries had the opposite trend. Also, students applying from China and the USA were the most significant in four years.
As can be seen from the chart, in 2004, the number of international students from China peaked at around 27,000 and was also the most popular among these countries. In the same year, the figures for Russia accounted for the lowest rate with only about 3,000 students. Likewise, the number of international students from Japan and the USA was about 7,000 and 3,000, respectively. However, by 2008, Japan and America had changed. The number of applications from the US went up sharply, and 14 thousand more than that four years ago. As for Japan, the number of international students is gradually increasing, from around 7,000 to 10,000.
Looking at the bar in more detail, Russia had a stable number of students studying abroad in Europe, about 2-4 thousand scholars. In addition, the number of applications from China dropped considerably, from 27,000 to 16,000.
