The line chart illustrates the differences in average SAT math scores between male and female students at a certain school from 1992 to 2000. Overall, both the boys’ and girls’ scores increased throughout the period; however, girls’ scores seemed to rise at a faster pace and caught up with male scores.
In 1992, boys started with an average score of 500 points, which increased slightly to 510 points in 1993. Although the next year witnessed a decrease to 505 points in 1994, their scores started rising immediately after 1994 and reached 530 points in 1998. From 1998 to 2000, male scores remained constant at 535 points.
In contrast, female students began with a lower average score of 460 points in 1992. Nevertheless, their scores rose steadily to nearly 490 points in 1995. There was a sharp increase of 20 points in girls’ scores between 1995 and 1996. Over the remaining years, the girls’ scores continued to grow more gradually, reaching 530 points in 2000, only 5 points behind the boys’.
