The maps illustrate how the town of Frenton changed between 1990 and 2012.
Overall, Frenton became more residential and modern over the period. Several new apartment buildings and leisure facilities were constructed, while some older features such as the playing fields, trees, and houses were replaced. However, certain facilities including the school, hospital, and library remained in the same locations.
In 1990, the town had a school in the northwest corner, with a bank located directly below it. A hospital was positioned near the centre, while a library was situated slightly to the south. To the north of High Street, there were playing fields with trees, and additional trees were located in the southwest. On the eastern side, there was a large area of houses, while a café and park were located nearby. In the south, there was a theatre and a row of shops.
By 2012, significant developments had taken place. The playing fields and trees in the north were replaced by blocks of flats, and the houses on the eastern side were also converted into apartment buildings. The bank was replaced with a restaurant, and the theatre in the south was turned into a cinema. In addition, the shops were replaced by a supermarket. The café and park area was transformed into a hotel and golf course, while the trees in the southwest were replaced by a technopark. Despite these changes, the school, hospital, library, and High Street remained unchanged.
