Overall, the town has changed significantly and agriculturally. Originally it was rural area with fields, woodland and a little amount of infrastructure. However, nowadays it is a town with residential, commercial. leisure facilities and improved transport system.
In 1815, Westley had a large agriculture industry. The southern part of it consisted mostly of fields, while the central part was occupied with a few houses, market square and church. There was also Lenton Woods and Lake Lenton with village to the north. The transport was basic with one main road only, and additionally there was a river with Twine Toll Bridge above it which led to the Coach Inn serving travellers.
Furthermore, Westley has changed considerably in comparison with the old town. Most of the farmland has been replaced by shopping centres, business and residential area, as well as leisure activities such as museum, sport centre and cinema. Lenton Woods was turned into Lenton Housing Estate, and several buildings, like hotela and restaurants have appeared near it, but Lake Lenton remained untouchable. The railway lies along the whole town and crosses the river that is a great improvement of transportation.
In conclusion, Westley was under significant changes, transforming from rural and agricultural town to modern and well-developed urban area with a great amount of amenities.
