The given pictures illustrate the way in which Felixstone in the UK transformed for tourism purposes between 1967 and 2001.
Looking at the illustrations, it is immediately evident that some old features were still there, whereas others such as farmland had all gone. Additionally, over the period of thirty-four years, the town underwent significant transformations, including changes to infrastructure, housing, and amenities.
In 1967, several elements, such as the golf course, High Street, dunes, hotel, and café, remained unchanged. Likewise, the shops on the left side of the High Street, located on the southern side, also retained their original form. However, new developments were introduced, such as wind turbines installed offshore near the dunes in the east. Additionally, a car park was built between the hotel and the dunes, below the main roads, to accommodate visitors.
By that year, changes had been made to other features, the most noticeable of which was the change of the shops on the right side of the High Street in the east; the maps were replaced with apartments. Similarly, the pier in the southeast of the town was demolished to make way for a public beach. While the Marina and Fish market in the southeast, below the main roads, was cleared and erected, a Private Beach. Finally, the farmland in the northeast, under main roads and beside shops, was redeveloped and replaced by hotels, swimming pools, and tennis courts.
