The bar chart given illustrates last year’s percentage of illiterate people, specifically for both men and women in different world regions. Overall, in developed countries the rates are almost non-existent, but in other parts of the world this is a real problem especially for females.
For regions such as the Arab states and South Asia, the illiteracy rates are at an all time high, surpassing 50% for the female population and around 30% for the males. For Sub-Saharan Africa, the results are a bit similar with the females percentage being short of 50%, and slightly over 30% for the males.
As for both East Asia and Latin America, the results aren’t as drastic with the female rates in East Asia reaching 20% and only about 11% for the later. As for the men illiteracy rates, they are a bit better with 10% in Latin America and around 8% for the later.
